Hi Everyone!

I got to interview Mr. Andy Paiko today and I thought that some of you here would like to read it.  He's the craftsman who made the Glass Spinning Wheel that everyone's been raving about over on Ravelry.

You can read about it on my blog http://allthingsshea.blogspot.com/2008/05/interview-with-andy-paiko.html

There is also a link there to his web site that has pictures of his wheel.  His work is absolutely amazing!

I am in no way affiliated with Mr. Paiko, just an adoring fan.
Enjoy!

Shea

It is beautiful!  I saw this wheel (on the net) a few months ago and just marvelled at it.  When I heard it was a working wheel, I about fainted.

Ok, someone needs to write a fairy tale about the glass spinning wheel.  I mean, that thing is just pure magic!

It DOES look like pure magic!  Shocked   Something that you might see in a dream.

Speaking of dreams, now where is that spare $22,000 hiding?  I know I have it around here somewhere...

I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's me with some yarn on my head.

its amazing what they can do these days. its even functional too, which is a plus. I was thinking of making a type of collapsible spinning wheel using umbrella frames or something(so you can undo it and maybe stuff it in a tube like compartment like a yoga mat bag?)

If you get a good strong wind will it turn inside out like an umbrella?   Grin

What would you use for a round wheel?   How would you treadle?  I'm intrigued!

Thanks so much for posting this! I just found this wheel online as well, and I fell in love. Then I discovered that the maker is in Portland, where I'm going in August. Now it's going to be on display there, too? Anyone know how long it's going to be up? I'd love to see it in person.

well i was thinking of using the umbrella's metal frame and adjusting it and that can act like the big wheel and add a treadle with the  pole to turn it at the umbrella's stick (maybe cutting it a bit off so it can be a bit shorter and haveing the _/\_ so it can treadle). and the umbrella's edge will somehow have the string to rotate another smaller wheel which has a spindle or something else i guess. i havnt thought that much into it, but i just had a rough sketch but thats it.
