So I was tired of not being able to find a good recipe for sea salt ice cream that WASN'T extremely fattenting, so I made my own.
Fans of Kingdom Hearts and tasty sweets, this one's for you.
Now for this recipe you need:
~Two sandwhich bags.
~Some ice. (Best: a mixture of part cubed and part crushed)
~3 table spoons of table salt.
~A sea salt bottle and grinder duo. (This is a bottle with sea salt chunks inside and has a grinder tip. Cheapest way to go.~) (Note: if you need to know the brand name, I'll be more than happy to post it.)
~1/2 a tablespoon of sugar.
~1/8 a teaspoon of vanilla extract. (Found usually in baking or seasoning aisles)
~1/4 cup of milk.
~A bottle of blue food coloring.
-Open the first bag and place in the milk, sugar, vanilla.
-Next add one drop of blue food coloring. If you feel it is too light add another drop. No more, or the color will be TOO dark, and untrue to it's model.
-Next you'll grind in about 2 to 4 full grinds of sea salt.
NOTE: 2 grinds will result in a reversed sea salt ice cream, where the taste is first sweet and then salty. (Better IMO~) 3-4 grinds will give you true sea salt ice cream where in the salty taste comes before the sweet one.
-Now you seal the bag and be sure to let out air as much as possible!
-Next you take your other baggy and fill it half with ice.
-Add the three tablespoons of table salt to the ice bag.
-Now place the bag with the ice cream mixture inside of your salt bag.
-Seal the ice bag allowing air inside.
-Shake the bag for 4-5 minutes, until you see the blue mixture begin to harden.
-Open the ice bag and remove your ice cream baggy.
-Open your ice cream baggy and enjoy! You have just made sea salt ice cream!
Yeilds: one serving. For two servings: Double all EXCEPT sea salt, and food coloring. Sea salt is always measured to taste, and food coloring should be done by eye.
Tips: By now you'll discover that shaking a freaking cold, FREEZING bag isn't fun XD So here are some things you can do!
* Wear an oven mitt when shaking the bag.
* Wrap a towel over the bag and then shake.
* Replace the second bag instead with a large coffe tin. Fill it half filled with ice, and depending on how large your tin is, alter the salt by a table spoon or two. Place the ice cream mixture bag inside and the close the tin with it's plastic cap. (Just to be sure, place some duct tape in an X shape over the cap, for a secure sealing.) Rather than just shaking, now you have the option of rolling the tin. So invite some friends, sit on the floor and roll the tin to each other. :3~
