I thought at the mid-april, there would be a meeting place in a store or sth.

Well, I am interested in craft meet.

Place....um....I guess may be renting a room in community center or church?

And can you give me the flick site again, I lost my bookmark, thankx.

We see the throns of the others, but we cannot see the log of timber in our eyes.

Hi, I'm new to Craftster :-) I'd be interested in coming to meetings, Agro is right down the street from my house :-) Cross stitch and embroidery are my main craft addictions but I dabble in knitting and painting too.

I am interested too, but seems like this post is so quiet.

Hm.. I might be interested in group meetings too
Sorry for my late reply--I'm a bit nervous if there are many people though Undecided
Starpiste What would happen in the meetings? One 'teacher' and a bunch of people to learn... Do you usually do them at people's houses? I'm in nanaimo right now actually, but I will come back to Vancouver for an internship some time in July

The flickr link is in my signature too.

The meetings themselves were basically informal gatherings at cafes where everyone brought a portble project (knitting, embroidery, card making, whatever) to work on in a group while chatting about crafty and non-crafty things. We usually started between 6:30 and 7 and went until people left or the place closed (9:0) or so. We did have a desire for some group teaching sessions that were more formal, but never got around to doing any of them.

The meetings stopped for two reasons.
1. Agro started closing at 7:00 and a similarly good location couldn't be found. We wanted to go to soma (main and broadway) but it was closed for renovations.
2. A lack of interest. It's not even that people weren't coming, but no one was explaining why so we could make the meetings more convenient, and no one was even saying they wanted to be there.

Soma has reopened and could be a good venue again. However, I don't have the time/desire to start the meetings back up. I was really discouraged at the lack of response after a decently good start in Spring/Summer 06 and felt I put a lot of energy into trying to set things up, and send out reminders and get feedback. Also, it ended up being the same four people meeting all the time, so we got really close and are now just good friends who happen to craft together whenever/whereever it suits us.

All that said I would be totally open to making someone else a mod on the flickr group, and through here and there starting things again. I think the meetings were so great when they were working and met a bunch of really cool people and learnt a bunch of stuff. I think it has potential to be really great.

That's too bad :-( It sucks when people don't show up, I'm sorry you did all that work and no one came. I'm still up for meeting up if anyone else is interested but I'm afraid I don't have time to be a mod on the flickr group :-)
