Oh, oh, lapoli, I loves me some stinky fleeces!

Babydoll is so lovely!  The staple length is sorta short, since it's down and all, but it's so nice and soft.  Are you going to be carding it?

I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's me with some yarn on my head.

LOL! I know who I'll be a-buggin' when I need either emotional support to continue on or if I need help! Smiley

I am excited about the Babydoll fleece! It's from a sheep named Puddles and her staple length is actually a bit longer (3-4 inches) so the seller was offering a good price.  And yes, I will be carding (on the drumcarder I am inheriting from frankierevolver - woo!!!) and dyeing the wool. I can't wait!

Rock.  Awesome that the staple length is longer than usual!

Cleaning fleeces is so worth it considering that it cuts the price down so much!  And a pound is definitely manageable.  I like to clean a pound at a time.

what do you do with the remaining until you have time to clean it?

I keep unwashed fleece in paper bags, stashed in a (committed) plastic storage box.  Or my car, which is bad, but sometimes you run out of stash room!   Cheesy  Washed fleece goes in pillow cases until I figure out what to do with it.  Someday I'll overcome my miserly ways and buy a drum carder or wool combs.  (I'm seriously fixated on http://www.lanicombs.com...my spinning instructor said they are the best around, and they're local!).  Right now I have handcards.  Slow, but pretty effective!

I spun a merino cross two-ply yarn with hand-carded rolags from wool I handscoured, and it was such a wonderful feeling to look at that yarn and know that I made it from the sheep up!  Lots of work, but well worth it!

i second that nicolassa! and i also bought a pound of the baby doll southdown from sapphire child, but i got the black young ewe's!!! it'll be my first black fleece! i usually buy of raw fleece at a time, it's easier to process, and i got to experience many different sheep breeds! Wink i haven't been brave enough *besides not having enough room for the stash of raw and washed fleeces i already have!!! the trunk of my small suv is currently full of bags of raw llama! Tongue!!*

hey, I think Liz (aka hobbledehoy) bought a little of Puddles, too!  There was a thread where she was asking for advice spinning Babydoll.  Maybe you should form a Babydoll support group or something.   Grin

Okay, SO! I'm going to organize June's fiber swap if no one minds!
Alright but here's the deal:
I'm changing internet service over the weekend (well we're moving - but new internet too!) So I was just planning on starting signups later today, still having them go through the 11th.. but I won't be able respond until the 3rd!
Hope no one minds having a (very slightly) longer sign up! (I know you guys don't but i figured i'd give everyone a heads up!)
PS - I love working with you fiber addicts as a swap group!!!!!! You're all great and everyones been wonderful with communication and such! Yay!!!
