NEW: So lately I've been getting tons of email from people wanting instructions/ ect. Hopefully this will help with questions, hopefully I don't sound like a terrible succubus type thing, I'm actually really nice, I'm just getting way too many emails about giving away the blueprints to my art. Firstly, although I am far from the first to make a dress out of something unconventional I am indeed the first to deal with skittles candy, and one of the *firsts* around the interwebs .
  • If i inspired your dress I'd like credit for that. (thats fair enough, right?) This is a key detail.
  • If you're doing a school project/lecture and you want to use an image of my dress that is alright, as long as credit is given to me.
  • If you are entering a contest and want to make a dress just like mine to enter that is NOT okay, if you are entering a contest it really needs to be your own original ideas and concepts, not a rehash of someone else's.
  • If you want to make a garment out of alternative material--thats fine! go for it!(I'd love to see it, those messages are loved) Just make sure its really your own piece with your own design and ideas, not to sound like a broken record but if i inspired it or helped in any way credit is due.
  • In terms of sewing, My dress is purely wrapper. (with a cotton slip on underneath, which i would consider a must) No staples, no glue, simply sewing. No special equipment at all. I drafted my own pattern which is really just a princess seamed dress, I cut and sewed wrappers into pattern pieces and sewed them together to make a dress. So really It was just like fabric. Plastic does tear but if you tinker with machine settings you can find settings that won't rip it. That's really all I can think to say about construction.

  • THIS DRESS IS NOT CURRENTLY FOR SALE. If i do end up putting it up for auction it would be exclusively between the museums that have shown interest rather than the public. It's highly tailored with absolutely no give so odds are, it wouldn't even fit...for a night on the town?

Although I do accept commissions on this sort of stuff they are not cheap.(the skittles dress would've totaled about 385$ min. had it been a commission) If you have that kind of money to throw to a hoodlum who plays in garbage please PM me.

That seems to touch on most of the emails, if you do have a question pm me here and I will respond as fast as i can.

Frankly, I'm a bit turned off by your post and I seem to be the only one. While I recognize that you admit up front that you were not the only one to come up with the idea of making clothing out of candy wrappers, I feel that you bullet list of "rules" are immature and border on insulting.

While I understand the need to clarify that this was your own project of your own design, I did not appreciate the detailed instructions you have left your fellow crafters. I think most of us, genuine and sincere craftsters, are aware that copying another artwork is a crime. I wouldn't attempt to re-create a Picasso . . .

IDK, re-reading it, I don't take the negative as extremely as I did the first few times I read your comments. I understand that you want your art to stay your own, but I find that your way of going about saying it was rather rude and demanding. Your posting on a public forum, a forum that repeatedly has their members asking for tutorials. And just because you share a few facts about how you created it, doesn't mean that your sharing your blueprints.

I guess, it's hard to have the full picture when I myself did not read the emailed responses and requests you received from others.

The dress is clever, and I appreciate you sharing it with the world. I'm happy for you that you were able to get quite a bit of publicity for this item, although, you haven't shared any recent stories expanding on the contacts made with you since 2008.

Thank you for letting me share my peace.
