On the bus to Yosemite a classmate taught me how to spin on a high whorl spindle. It came pretty naturally and an hour had passed without me even realized. So I decided to make a spindle, because I'm cheap and it gives me some wicked bragging rights.

materials:
-oak dowel. it being oak was unnecessary, that's just what I had.
-small cup hooks
-wooden closet pole hanger. It came in a pack of two, one being completely useless for this project. I wandered around the hardware store looking for something I could use until I happened upon it. The center was already drilled out for mounting it in closets. I had to make the hole slightly larger but it wasn't hard.
-sand paper.
-something to cut the dowel.

was super easy to make. I don't know how well it will work since I can't afford fiber right now. Everything but the closet mounting kit I already had so total cost was $3 USD.

Any design flaws you guys can see?

It looks really nice! Do you know how much it weighs?  differently weighted spindles will lend themselves to different weights of yarn.

Not sure how much it weighs. It's a tad bit heavier than the one I used on the bus. That's okay with me though. I like fine yarn. As long as it doesn't cause it to not work.
