This is my very very first post, so if it's in the wrong place have mercy on the n00b.

I made this for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day.  I got the idea from this guy who makes sculptures out of Legos.  His name is Nathan Sawaya, as the wonderfully helpful BeatnikChick has just informed me.

All I did was take a block of floral foam and sculpt it into the general shape of the heart, sans arteries.  I hot glued the hearts all over, trying my best to cover everything.  When I got to the top I just started building up from the bulk of the heart so the arteries would be hollow.

(You can see the strings of hot glue that I had yet to clean off)

He still hasn't been allowed to take it home, because I just made it's base the other day.  I'm too lazy to take pictures of that right now, but basically I just took another smaller square of floral foam and covered it with the leftover green, yellow, and white hearts.  Then I stuck the heart on a short dowel and stabbed it in (gluing the crap out of it for security).

I'm thinking about making a set of lungs out of Altoids next.  I actually have an entire set of organs I'd like to make.  What do you think?

Human rights are for EVERYONE.  Did you know that Aung San Suu Kyi had been released from house arrest in Burma? Many other prisoners of conscience are still being detained.  Please research this topic... Amnesty International needs your help.

About a month ago my daughter had to make a DNA strand, off to the bulk store to find things that would work.  I came up with gum balls.  Originally she wanted to make it out of rice krispie squares mushed together to make the spiral ladder.  After a short discussion I convinced her they wouldn't work that great.

Paying the $27 on gum balls and shish-kabob sticks we made each rung and then her and her science lab partner put it together-They got perfect!

Amazing what craft folk can come up with.

So clever - and great looking too!

I'm always on the lookout for things to do with those hearts.  One year, completely by accident, we both gave each other Valentine's gifts with that "theme".  (He put a lovely bracelet in a box from the conversation hearts, I covered our door into the house from the garage with them.)  So now we both look for them.   (The next year he got a tie with them on it that he always has to wear to Valentine's Day dinner and to any weddings we go to  Grin.)

I love the idea of something 3 dimensional.  Thanks for the inspiration!

It's not that I don't want to swap, it's that I often don't have time.  But feel free to ask (especially if it's one that's not too time consuming).

Ok, so I was looking at this post and my boyfriend just walked by and started shouting about how awesome it was...  Nice job, particularly with the veins, apparently.  Cheesy  (personally, I feel that this is an excellent use of those silly candy hearts, too.)
