our fam does a gift swap at christmas, usually a dirty santa type thing.  no one ever wants to plan this party because the old people ( lol parents and grand parents ) hate it.  the men dont want to participate at all, the women are afraid to steal gifts and hurt someones feelings, and then the little kids cant even participate ( all under 9 ).  well somehow i got stuck with planning it this year.  im trying to think of something different to do for the gift swap.  the men still wont enjoy it, but ill make them participte anyway.

i just need ideas, all im finding online are variations of dirty santa and the left right game.  left right would be ok i guess, i just wanted a few more unique ideas.

my mom suggested some kind of trivia. but im not sure how to work that out.

If you want the swap to be more enjoyable, then you should definitely set price limits on the gifts.  If they are within the same price range ($10-$15 or $30-$40 for example), then even if the gift someone receives is not perfect, at least they won't feel cheated.  Something we like to do at my house is a surprise ball, and you can use that to pick who gets the next gift.  I wrap small gifts (this year it was stickers, balloons, small buttons, erasers, and finger puppets) in crepe paper streamers.  I use one foot-longish strand of streamer per gift, and as soon as one little toy is wrapped up I add another trinket and another streamer.  I usually do one toy per person, but nobody is ever upset if Grandma gets two erasers and they only got one sticker.  Anyway, keep wrapping until the ball is big and actually round, then seal it with a sticker.  To connect it with the gift swap, Person 1 gets to open the first streamer until they get their toy, then toss the ball to another person.  While Person 2 is opening the ball, Person 1 can choose and open a gift.  Tossing the ball is a lot more fun than drawing numbers, and even if it's silly, it's still nicer than stealing.

I love planning parties - come to me if you need any ideas!
