Thanks for your comments  Ill try and answer your questions

I did not paint the cup . I got it at goodwill 1.99
Yes it is just copper mesh you can get it at places like home depo
I use A dremel tool to grind the hole in the bottom of the cup
I also made a grove  in the bottom to allow for the cord
The bottom of the cup was concave so there was some room to stick the socket and cord .
Its not a regular size socket  just one of those  small ones that use little Christmas bulbs.. Also those bulbs that look like a flame look great in it  if you  want it to be more of a night lite

I also made a coffee cup clock in the way way back I keep meaning to do an updated version so many projects so little time

... thanks again I really do appreciate the feedback  ..

I love this idea... Think it would be great for a Mothers day gift.

Well what a surprise!!  I didn't suspect that you had electricity running in your lamp and I was looking for it.  Great the way the cord and bulb is concealed.  I love that!  Plus that it being a bargain 2 dollar cup and saucer.lol
I think that I have the fruit bowl that belongs to your clock set.lol  I got it as a gift (punishment?) years ago and didn't have the heart to get rid of it.lol.  Again, great job!

This rocks. not only would I LOVE the tea/coffee cup but making it a lamp is so genious. Like steam coming up. this would totally win the light up challenge!

I have paint all over my fingers and fabric all over the floor. Yeah it was a good day!
