so, i wanted a pair of ann wood birds for my cake topper for my october wedding, later this year, but im not going to pay that much for them.
after a few hours today i came up with two realy bad patterns, and one good one.
i did these in felt first, but my real toppers will be out of vintage fabric, (i'll update you with the reall toppers when im finnished!!)
the birds will be sitting on wood, just like this. (the wood is just craps i found while shopping for a christmas tree, they let me keep the scrap trunks) i have a soft white fabric on the bottom to keep the wood from touching the cake... and instead of being held down with wire, they wil be glued...and my husbands bird will be wearing glasses.!!

i know some of you will be upset and say that i "ripped off" her pattern...but this is my own pattern...i couldnt really copy hers, because i dont have it.
i just had to figure this out myself.
i figure ill wrap the legs with brown floral tape, so they wont be so shiny.

oh, by the way, the cake is going to look like wood grain, so these are the perfect toppers!!

the cake i want...

so i tried making on with actual fabric..haha yeah right!!  it was so damn hard!! i hate tiny curved edges!! i think i just might make the real toppers with felt....but does anyone know whare to get cute, patterned felt?
i read somewhare that you can put stamps under felt, and iron over them, and the pattern will press into the felt....or maybe ill just embroider the felt before i sew it into a bird shape.?? i dont know yet.

That is too darn cute! I love his little eyes and beak!
That cake is gorgeous too! I'd love to see completed pictures!
I don't think you "ripped off"  her pattern.. more like you were inspired by her little birdies!!
