I'm teaching myself to sew since my wonderful hubby bought me a sewing machine for Christmas!  I bought the book Sew What Skirts but ended up putting it on the shelf for about a month since I didn't quite understand it yet.  I made a few things using patterns so I could become somewhat familiar with making something and how they are supposed to go together.  Then I bought 5 yards of denim (I'm still not sure what possesed me into buying so much) and I pulled my book off the shelf and this is what I made!

It's the frayed wrap skirt they have in there.  I decided I didn't like the idea of snap tape and found some wonderful brass sun buttons and used those instead.  Unfortunately I don't have a very good picture of those and I tried getting a close-up with my awful camera to no avail.

I hope you like it, I do, it's pretty comfy and I'm pretty proud of myself!

Thanks guys!  I really enjoyed making it, and it didn't take me long at all.  I worked on it Thursday and Friday night after work, so in all it probably took me about 7 hours to make - not bad for just learning!  I like the fraying on the bottom, but thought the white threads hanging down looked poor, so yesterday I trimmed all the white threads from the bottom so now it's a soft looking blue fray.

I don't get over here nearly often enough!  That is the skirt I wore to the meet, as a matter of fact that was taken at the meet!

You had commented Sheliaann!  Thank you so much.  I really like the skirt, but I think I'm going to install more buttons.  Since it's a wrap it's not necessary to install more buttons but it bothers me that it gaps a bit when I walk.  I washed the denim before I delved into it, and after I made the skirt it was fine, but then I washed the skirt and now it gaps.  I think there's just too much area between buttons - either that or I need to move them a smidge, or both.

ETA: sunnymoody can you see it okay now?  Perhaps my webhoster was down for a bit when you looked at the thread before.
