It was my birthday this Sunday, and my lovely man took me on a surprise trip to Whitby (English seaside town). So of course i took my camera!

It was REALLY windy, so some of them are just off focus as I was being so blown around, but on the whole, I really like them. I also had problems with the abbey and its straightness, because it is medieval, and so totally un-straight and un-symmetrical. Not to worry!

Boat moored up in the harbour

Detail of fisherman’s baskets

Whitby abbey, now in ruins after general decline and being bombed in World War 2

The abbey again from the inside

A sign with varying exotic destinations and the distance to them in nautical miles

The pier, looking out to see. And just obscured by that man in orange you can only just see is the bench where my OH asked me to marry him on Saturday Cheesy

These photos are really beautiful! I especially like the close up of the basket and the sign!

i have been right to the very end of the pier that is now shut off to the public, along a very very rickety rusted set of steps, scared the hell out of me! used to take about 36 year 6 pupils to east barnby for their outdoor education week every january - yes, january hiking around the north yorkshire moors, whitby is absolutely FREEZING in january!!

its not my favourite place, but its very pretty - & a lovely walk along the beach right up to sandsend if you ever fancy a long walk!

Very pretty pictures, I love the abbey photos; what's an OH?

Oh, it's just kittens.

I want to leave this world the way I came into it:  naked, screaming, and covered in someone else's blood.

Not OP(original poster) but...

I believe OH means other half.

Also these pictures are fantastic! I might have to try and take a trip there when I go to England in 22 days!!!
