I am so very proud of myself for finishing this bad boy.  This was the hardest thing I've sewn yet... darned unravelly taffeta.

This is a dress that I made for my high school's music department banquet last night.  It's deep cherry red/black changeable taffeta... luscious, but difficult to work with.  I had to make this dress twice, mostly because the first time I didn't line it or zigzag any of the seams and it kind of shredded.  I worked on and finished the final copy for nine hours straight... and then died (almost).

As I hope you can see from the pictures (click once for some detail, then close and click again for more detail), I hemmed the front shorter than the back, then bustled the back.  I sewed roses made out of the taffeta onto the lower back, to cover the bustle stitching.  At first I put boning in the lining, but I decided I liked the gathered fabric, so I removed it and gathered the bodice along the side seams with elastic.

I'm wearing a super puffy white crinoline underneath that I borrowed from the costume shop.  (Thank goodness we did Grease two years ago!)  With all that polyester and taffeta, you can hear me rustling from a mile away.

Forgive the sneakers... It would have looked kickass with my killer black slingbacks, but i sprained my ankle two weeks ago and didn't want to take any chances.  It didn't matter anyway- we all kicked off our shoes and danced the night away!

You look stunning, dah-ling, just stunning! Beautiful dress, hair, make-up... wow... and your complexion looks great with the redish lipstick.

That dress is the SHIZNIT! And the shoes make it look even better, in my opinion. I was going to wear my checkered vans to my winter formal, but my mom threatened to not let me go if I did. lol.

Haha, the goldfish is a birthday card taped to my office door.  I was wondering if anyone would notice!
