My husband LOVES to read and browse used bookstores, so when we moved down the street from The Strand, I decided to make something for our house! I took one of their tote bags:

Snipped the straps and saved them for later, shoved a pillow inside (14" square I think)
and did a blind stitch on top.

I slapped some buttons on there and threw it on the couch! Viola!

It's had lots of use and is a little wrinkly, but comes back to life for company with a quick steam. I tried keeping the straps on and tucking them inside just incase I wanted to take it apart in the future and use it as a tote again, but it was too lumpy  Tongue I guess I have enough totes anyway!  Wink

This is really cool! I wish I could sew worth a dern because this project would come in handy. There is a place around here called "The Strand" as well. It's in Galveston Tx. A bunch of really cool shops and pretty historical.

A+ on your project Smiley

It's a toothpaste on the wrong side of the toothbrush kind of day.

Awesome! Cheesy

But is it just me, or does one say 8, and the other 18?

hehe. yeah. a lot changes over the years! And it's only been about 3 since I did this one. The new ones have the website printed on there too. Their whole thing is that they buy up entire libraries at a time as well as from local donators so they have rows and rows and rows and rows...

Super cool!! i made one like this like 2 years ago...it was a teacher's tote w/ the school name on it and it was just on top of her cabinet like forever so i asked her if i could take it. the next day i brought it back to her all stuffed and w/ little rheinstones on it. i wonder where it's at now. i should go visit her to check on that cute little pillow!-and to say "Hi" of course.

that's awesome! what a great idea!

what if a dawn of a doom of a dream
bites this universe in two,
peels forever out of it's grave
and sprinkles nowhere with me and you?
Blow soon to never and never to twice
(blow life to isn't:blow death to was)
all nothing's only our hugest home;
the most who die,the more we live
