Thank you, everyone for the compliments, advice, and suggestions!

that looks fantastic!  and i agree that i can't see where you could lose 20 more pounds...  just curious, how many days a week are you dancing?

Thank you.  It varies, but about 5 days/week.  Its not anything formal, though.  I get home from work, turn on some music, and off I go.  Once a week I get together to dance with a friend.  We usually follow a dvd because shes not very comfortable with improvising.

Great idea, I love the colors and the swish. So do you just do tapes or are you in classes? I want to do that!

I take lessons once a week.  Its my big extravagance, but its so worth itits fun, its great exercise (without feeling like exercise), the skills you learn are applicable to social dancing, you get to play dress-up, its a great stress-reliever, etc.  Before I started lessons, I bought some tapes to see if it was for me, and because I was pretty shy and didnt have the nerve to just walk into a class.

Over the last few years, Ive taken lessons on and off and gradually amassed a pretty good collection of DVDs from a local discount store.  For beginners, I highly recommend Amira's Belly Dance 101 or Bellydance Basics and Beyond: Technique for a Solid Foundation by Jenna.   The former is a little easier to follow along with, but the latter is the most thorough intro dvd Ive ever seen--you'll be learning things from it for years!

Everyone who mentioned that theyd like to try belly dancego for it!  Its so much fun!  And good luck and congrats on your good decision to every one whos taking lessons!

Oh, and your avatar is awesome!  XKCD rocks  Grin

Thank you.  It does!  I like Wellington Grey quite a bit too, but Im a total XKCD groupie!

Cool! And I love your house, by the way.  Grin

Thats actually my parents house.   I live in a tiny apartment.  My mom took the pictures for me (she also marked my hemwhich took over an hourthank you Mom!!!).  It is beautiful, isnt it.  My mom and dad fixed it upwhere Im standing was once a linoleum-floored kitchen, and there used to be a solid wall behind where the little Victorian couch is now.  I got my sewing skills from my mom, and my urge to create from my dad.  Theyre awesome.

I love the picture of Phyllis Monkman (I think) in your avatar!

Awesome that you made yourself a costume for it. Belly dancing has always sounded like a ton of fun, but you make it look like it, too. Cheesy

You look great.  The outfit is very flattering and I also don't think you need to lose 20 more.  Wink
You should definitely add coins... or the little bells... I have little gold and silver bells I add to everything.  They make a very pleasant soft chinging sound that makes you sound fairylike and mystical when you move.   Grin

take care and happy crafting.... april
