liike, could it work?

i have some beeeeautiful deep wine-almost-burgandy-but-not-quite knit fabric that i would love to turn into a wrap skirt. but i'm not sure it would work due to stretchiness.

would the band and ties have to be made out of something else? it's ok if they do, i'm just not sure. in my head it seems the knit fabric wouldn't be secure enough.

allllso...........suppose i cut the front wrap panel part on the diagonal, instead of having it square. would the edge curl and look pretty, or would it just roll and look wonky? i don't have a serger but i wanted something to effect of lettuce edging.

any help, anybody?
