We were snowed in.  We were bored.  I found this pair of wild socks.  I did the logical thing -- I made a monkey.

To make your own, use the wildest socks you can find and traditional sock monkey instructions.  There are some at http://breezeb.tripod.com/crafts/sockmonkey.html  Have fun!

Awh, he's a sweet (and colorful) sock monkey! I really like the added stitches to the eyes.

Have you named him?

Smiley  I think she's a girl, but no name... I don't wanna get too attached.  I think she'll probably go live with one of my neices.

do the socks really not fray too much when you cut them apart?  I've always wanted to make a sock monkey but have always been afraid that it would fall apart after I'd made it.

Yep, those socks were definitely designed by the same people who did the sets for Laugh-in.  Maybe we should name her Judy, for the sock-it-to-me girl.  Wink

As for the socks fraying, they don't, really....  the hardest thing is they kind of curl up when you cut them and it's hard to keep the pieces flat while you sew.   Tongue  I sewed most of her on my trusty Bernina, so I'm not worried about her coming apart.

For that matter, Miss Monk, my childhood friend who has led a very long and eventful life, is still hanging in there with all her body parts! I'm pretty sure she was made entirely by hand.
