OK... I'm REEEEALLY new to this whole embroidery thing. This one is only my second one, to be honest. But I have been so incredibly inspired by all of your posts (and thank you for that!) that I decided to buck-up give this a go.

It's basically a pin-up girl licking her lips over a bottle of rum. Need I say more?

Feel free to give me tips if you've got 'em! It's the only way a newbie like me will learn! Wink

I love her. She's so cheeky. I usually don't like coloured thread on a dark background, but yours looks really great. Keep it up! Cheesy  (And nice socks! I have the same ones. Grin)

Yeah you are doing great. It's hard to believe your are a newbie. It must be that special hidden talent of yours. Did you make the pattern yourself? If so you are amazing. I love it. I can't believe you filled that whole label in. Great image it is totally rum delicious.

Thanks everyone, so much! YAY!

Yeah, Im totally a newbie! Well, I am an artist, but until now Ive been partial to painting on wood and paper, and a few other surfaces. So this is a new thing for me. But I sort of look at it like I'm painting with thread, and my brush is the needle. Once I thought of it that way, it got way easier.

I free-handed her. The rum bottle I kept getting crooked, uneven, or too squat. So I gave up and printed out a rum bottle off my computer I found on google images. Then I cut it out, pressed it up on the skirt, and traced around the edges to make a template. I did the rum bottle first, and when it was done, I felt like the skirt needed something more. I wracked my brain and almost did a pirate, but then messed up while sketching out the pirate. I liked the mistake I made so much that it turned into a pinup girl rumaholic. lol

The first one I did I will have to post pics of. But it was my very first, so its not that good to be honest. Its cute though, but with lots of mistakes. And the back of my first one is SO MESSY. This one at least has a tidy back to it because I learned from the mistakes of my first one. My first project was a pink elephant (I collect pink elephant stuff) blowing bubbles from his trunk, while balancing himself on an inverted martini glass. Its super cute! But its obviously a beginner's embroidery. Thats ok. Thats what practice is for. Wink

Thanks again for the encouragement! I can't wait to do more! Cheesy

PS: Templates are easy for me because they seem to be mostly just a black and white line drawing. I design custom coloring books for a living, so I draw those all day long. I find now that when I am drawing a coloring book page, I am suddenly thinking to myself, "WOW! I could embroider this!" ha! Who woulda thunk it? The two hobbies are practically kissin' cousins! Cheesy
