I have never made a pair of these before, and seeing that I promised the neighbours son a pair of hand-knitted mittens in return for him babysitting our 4 girls, I have decided to make him a pair of thrummed mittens as it can get pretty cold....

I am using some recycled wool from a sweater that I decided I will never finish (100% wool, unknown brand, worsted weight in a nice chocolatey brown colour), and also some hand-dyed fleece that I bought at the Calgary Farmers market...

This is the pattern I am using.  I am using 3.5mm needles for the ribbing and 4mm needles for the main body of the mittens.

The picture shows some balls of the yarn that I have made already, the back of the sweater (I doubt I will need that, so haven't unravelled that yet) the fleece and Monday's Calgary Sun (Jan 14th) - I actually took the picture on Monday, but have only just got round to downloading the pics from the camera!

Closeup of the paper showing the date:

And this is how far I have got with knitting them -

basically just the ribbing cuff done - I know I have been slacking off the last couple of days - am planning a knitting session this evening though with a good movie and a bottle of wine....

So I'm not a knitting Gal -I have mucho respect for it, but can't master everything at once so it will come.

ANYWAY, what I'm reading from this post is that you want us to bug the crap out of you 'til you get this project done.  Lest you lose a cheap babysitter, 'cause he may need a matching sweater or ear/head warmer or hat AND you may need a babysitter.

Just my interpretation.

Get your project done Calgary!

I've never heard of thrummed mittens before, so just went to look them up! They're awesome! The colours you chose are great too.

Well I am done  Grin

I do need to take a photograph of them later today...  but I am so pleased with them!  In fact I think I might make a second pair for me!

Here are the pictures of the mittens that I promised:\

Outside lying flat:

Lying flat, one inside out showing the wool lining:

And being worn:

I am very pleased with the way they turned out and they are incredibly warm, which is just as well as the temperatures here have plummeted.  I gave them to Josh's mum (our next door neighbour) yesterday, and she said that she would pass them on to him.

I hope he likes them!

I love these! My hands get so cold here in AK. I'm off to Ravelry in search of a pattern. Thanks!  Smiley
