I made this awesome pleated dress from an 80's Simplicity pattern I found at my local thrift store.  (Simplicity 6211 from 1983, if anyone has to know.)

I had a ton of houndstooth fabric to play around with, so I decided to give it a go.  I like it, but I think I'll be doing it again in a black, silky fabric, cause I think this one is kind of loud.
Anyway, the pattern was simple to follow, turned out like pictured, and I finished it in just a day.  Enough blabbing, here's the pictures.  Critisism, comments, questions appreciated!  Thanks for looking!

Wow, it's totally tubular! I love seeing what people do with patterns from the eighties. The dress is fab on you. I can't wait to see it in a silky black.

how well does the bust area stay up?  it looks really great though, especially since its from a pattern from the 80s!

Yeah I can't wait to find the perfect fabric for it and get started....

hiverfashion:
The bust actually has a fitted bodice behind the pleated part (called an overbodice, i guess) so it stays up just like a strapless dress would.  It has a zipper in the back, by the way.

EmBem:
Haha, I have a major houndstooth fetish too.

i love it because its loud.

could u scan/take a picture of what the pattern pices look like, like on the back of the packet or on the instructions so i can just get an idea of how the top is done and the shape of the skirt. that would help a lot.

im thinking about useing that kinda idea for prom, with a loud, wild print, cause thats how i am.

That is an incredibly cute dress.  Normally 80's fashion makes me cringe, but that really is adorable and I love the houndstooth.  I think it's terrible hard to go wrong with houndstooth.  It looks fantastic!
