So for my third reconstruction attempt I decided i would work more with textures than with colour. I used three items of clothing for this which were a black velvet top, a black top which was a little too short for me and a shiny black nightgown my mother had in the closet and never used.

The first one I worked on was the tiny black top. I cut off the bottom of the nightgown and made ruffles which I attached to the bottom of the black top. Above the ruffles is a band of black velvet which is the bottom of the velvet top. I also added the bows from the nightgown to the straps and a strip of black lace edge to make additional straps which can be worn up or down.

The second recon is a belt i made from the velvet top. In order to add more texture to the velvet, I cut strips of fabric with which I made ruffle folds but sewed down to keep it flat. I used a standard double closure belt buckle which is used for most school belts in Barbados and added a ribbon and lace bow.

The third and final recon I made from the remainder of the black velvet top which is a bolero style shrug. I chopped off the sleeves and cut down the middle of the top and rounded the edges. To this I added a ribbon band around the sleeves with a bow and black and white button as well as a ruffled lace neckline.

Now I can coordinate with my beautiful cat! Although she doesn't give a damn about what I do just as long as I feed her.

I hope you like! Please feel free to leave comments/advice/criticisms. Thanks!

i *love* the shrug so much! it's very elegant and classy, but super cute at the same time. i love the details like the bows on the sleeves and the ruffly-lace on the collar area.

i also really like that you made a belt. that's a neat re-con we don't see very often! Smiley
