One of my New Year's resolutions was to renovate my Etsy shop. After participating in a few critiques on the Etsy forums I took the advice I was given, changed my banner and took new photos of all my items. It feels great to start off fresh for the new year. It was a long process because I did absolutely everything alone. I do have to give credit to one Etsy seller for the wonderful information she gave me about an online printing service for my business cards (overnightprints.com). Thank you nbcreative! =)

Some of the things I've changed:
- new photos for all of my items
- made new backgrounds which are now either pink, white, or brown to match my banner
- new banner
- revised all of my item descriptions
- new business card which matches my banner
- showed scale in my handbag photos by taking a photo of me holding the bag
- revised my profile and shop policies
- made jewelry display busts to match my backgrounds/business card/banner

I'm still not completely done, but I am so excited about the change that I just had to share!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Now share yours! I'd love to see them!

PS: I've also posted this on the Etsy forums.

Souldier, your renovations look fantastic!  You have done a TON of work... I have been working on renovating my shop, too, slowly but surely.  It took two hours to re-do my tags and descriptions, so I know what an undertaking it is!

I probably will not be retaking my photos.  I am currently reworking my banner and avatar.... some critiques in the forums said it looked like I sold felty-kid-baby accessories.  Nothing of the sort!  Undecided  So I'll unveil my before & afters once the banner & avatar are done.

And I never thought to re-do (re-brand!) my biz cards and packaging.  Thanks for the tip!

Great job, and keep up the amazing work!

Thanks barbolot! It definately is quite an undertaking, but I felt it was necessary.
I would love to see your before and afters when you are done!

Aaalllrighty.... here's my before:

**Banner featured items that I made/used.
**Avatar was a pincushion I had made from a recycled bottlecap.

And now my after:

**My banner now features the recycle emblem (as I use recycled materials in each object) made from different materials I commonly work with.
**My avatar is a recycle emblem from recycled fabrics.
**I reworked all of my tags.
**I reworked all of my descriptions to be bulleted points.
**I'm working on taking brighter/better photos.

I still need to make new biz cards/stickers with my new emblem on them.  I can post those later, when they're done.

I'd really appreciate any feedback you have!  Thanks so much!

Personally I think your photos are pretty good.
It is so much work but it is soooo worth it!

Thanks, souldier. Smiley  You're right -- it WAS a lot of work!  But I am already getting more views... so that's a good thing!  Some of my older photos are darker.  My next project is to build a cheapo light box, so I can take pictures at night (when I mostly work on my shop) and not rely on natural light so much.  Your photos are great -- do you do your own photos?  What do you use??

Yes I do. I took a photography class when I was working on my major (visual art) and bought a digital SLR (Canon Rebel XT 8.2 megapixel). I am no expert though and find myself always learning new tricks. I also have a lightbox that I purchased at Walmart a while ago. I live in Northern Ontario and my lighting situation sucks. Winter skies don't make for colorful photos. Haha. I absolutely love this lightbox I bought though. It was about $60 (CAN) and it came with two lights, the lightbox, and a reversible background that attaches with a velcro - also the whole thing is portable and folds up to a nice little portfolio size. What I did was make myself additional backgrounds using scrap fabric and velcro. If you are interested they sold them at the Walmart photo center.

You could also easily make yourself one too as you said. Ever hear of instructables.com? They have great photography tutorials.

Thanks so much for the link... so many amazing ideas/projects!  Your lightbox sounds very cool and practical, though.  I haven't seen one here at our Wal-Mart, but then again, I haven't looked, either!  I'll keep my eyes open for one there, unless I get inspired to build my own before that.  Thanks for all your help, Souldier!

Wow Souldier - your shop looks very cohesive - great job!

In my jewelry shop I just recategorized everything. I'm still selling off older designs, but have new ones coming in with new materials, so wanted things to be a little more cohesive than they were.

In my supplies shop I've start to do really simple listings stating quantity, material & dimensions, instead of the chatty blurbs I had originally in the hopes that it makes things a little easier for buyers!
