I made this for my brother for Christmas. I had seen 3 way chess whilst on my travels in the Check Republic, but it was too expensive so I decided to make my own version. I found some diagrams of hexagonal boards on the internet, along with instructions of how to play. I drew out a hexagon on a piece of board, then gridded it up and painted it and added my own designs around the side. Lastly, I wrote a celtic blessing around the edges. My bro likes it Smiley

You did a fantastic job. Looks great. Three way chess? Couldn't imagine... I'm bad enough at two way!

People who take time to be alone usually have depth, originality, and quiet reserve.

He's missing his liver. That's how some kids react to the cafeteria food. The lucky ones.

I like the middle too - that's where the game gets really complicated and confusing though, especially if you are a bishop. Which way to go?? Too many squares! Thanks for the comments people, hx

Oh my!  That looks fantastic.  I might have to try this for my brother for his birthday (in July).

He used to be a huge chess fan and played all the time (in tournaments), but had an accident about 12 years ago and barely plays anymore.  I know he wants to, but I think it's not high on his list of priorities.  This might provoke him to get back in the game... excuse the pun.  Heh.

Awesome work!

I'm gonna finish it off with a coat of spray varnish, just so it lasts forever and so the paint doesn't chip. While I was searching for inspiration and looking at different board shapes on the net, I found 3, 4, 5 even six player chess, 3 dimensional chess, spherical chess (!) and all sorts of weird and wonderful variations involving more/less pieces. It's a shame I can't play to save my life!
