My sister and I are pretty big Harry Potter fans - she was actually 11 like Harry when the first book came out, so she has grown up with him. This whole thing actually started when I wanted to make a Hogwarts house colors scarf for her for Christmas. She is going to school at the University of Kansas, so I decided to surprise her and make it in KU colors, rather than colors from a Hogwarts house. Then I started getting more ideas, some inspired by the Harry Potter crafts here! She had always joked about feeling left out, and like she was actually supposed to get admitted into Hogwarts when she was 11, and she just never got the owl. Well, I decided to write a letter for her, from Professor McGonagall! For that, I used an image of the Hogwarts seal and made it a watermark, then took a digital photo of McGonagall's signature from Sorcerer's Stone! I also created coupons for Flourish and Bott's Booksellers and Ollivander's Wand Shop. Then I remembered that we have this red/black box that my sister and I pass back and forth on gift-giving holidays. I didn't have anything to put in it! So, I crocheted a Golden Snitch in about an hour, from Melissa Mall's pattern at http://www.innerchildcrochet.com! I made the package look like it really might have come from the wizarding world ... and I had so much fun doing it!

On to the pictures ...

The scarf is single crocheted, Caron Simply Soft. It's around 13 feet long and 9 inches wide! Weaving in the ends took forever. (I know, Mrs. Weasley knits, but I don't yet. She was branching out.)

The Snitch is between 1 and 2 inches and was single crocheted from embroidery thread (the wings) and sparkly crochet thread (the ball).

Please let me know what you think, and whether I did justice to this wonderful series of books. Smiley She loved it, which is what really matters.

That's the greatest!!!!  Your attention to detail is fantastic!!  I love everything about it.  The packaging is just beyond awesome, not to mention what's INSIDE the package!!  Awesome!!!
