There was a pair of $200 mother-of-pearl opera glasses at one of the stores that I had to tear myself away from.  The practical side of me was like, "seriously? opera glasses? when would you ever use those?" and the craftster/steampunk side of me was like, "oooh shiny! buy now!"

Opera glasses? They are just fancy binoculars. You could use them for watching the skies from the bridge of your airship...

You don't need a clock for gears Wink I just dismantled an old (not REALLY old but probably Seventies, falling apart and ugly) 35mm camera from a charity shop and found gears and all sorts of cool weird parts. Watch out for any mechanical or electronic stuff that's reasonably old (but not necessarily a lovely antique) and heavy - metal gears add serious weight to stuff! Even modern electronics have cool random parts in though. I dismatled my (broken) MiniDisc player over Christmas and made this out of the motors. And I love shiny circuit boards. So pretty.

Wow- that's beautiful! And from mini disc player innards Shocked.

Hmm, do I have anything I can dismantle? *ponders*

Ooh, and MidnightOak will we get to see photos of your party? As inspiration, naturally Wink I hope you have a great time!

I spent half a day at home, trying not to do much so I would not come down with the lurgy, but inevitable rummaging round the crafting room for parts. Have some weird ideas that came to me while I slept the headache off Cheesy

And of course I will post, hopefully inspirational, photos of the party, I am hoping to dress the house in a vaguely steampunk way as well if I have time. I am officially obsessed!  Cool

i was so excited about this swap that i kinda forgot winter term started this week - bad planning means i have to wait for friday to go shopping for yummy new crafting stuff. maybe this means i'll actually thoroughly plan and design my crafts for once before buying a bunch of supplies. prob'ly not.
