I have had the fun today of buying a clock solely to dismantle it.

After a few false tries I figured out the way in. The pieces are small, but will suffice.

Hurrah!

So I was finally able to go to the craft store yesterday to get some random bits I needed. I ended up leaving the house late, and had to run for the bus. I managed to whack my hand on a car's side mirror, and now my left thumb is so swollen and sore that I can't use that hand at all.
Some people just don't understand how dangerous crafting can be.

This is the truth. I cut my thumb accidentally with a pair of scissors once. It was deep and took ages to heal and it bled all over my art work Cry Hope your hand heals quickly.

If you do that, please, please take pictures. Or put a video on Youtube. Seriously, I can't crochet with my HANDS, so crocheting with your toes would be seriously impressive. Wink Cheesy

You know what a really good "cheating" source of metal gears is, specially if you only need one or two? Tin openers - the hand wound ones. Try the dollar store - I got mine in the UK equivalent, the delight that is Poundland. Admittedly, if you need a lot it could get expensive cos you only get about three, and it takes some prising to get it all apart, and you really have to watch the cutting blade, but boy do they look good. Otherwise, depending on your project, you could just spraypaint the plastic ones with metallic paint.

Finally started rather insanely on all three crafts at once  Shocked
Am beginning to wonder if I am sane and/or capable of pulling this off.

So far I don't have a gear in sight...but plenty of brass accents and random bits of things...

Just amused my DB by picking up one of the items I was investigating and going "Oops, I only wanted to see how it worked..." while holding the two broken parts.

Now I can use it for one of my small items instead  Grin

I'm almost done with my first item-and I didn't used a single gear.Still think it's kind of nifty(crosses fingers).

About halfway through my large piece (fingers crossed it workout the way I want). Three quarters of the way through my first small piece and have most of the pieces for my second small piece. I am really looking forward to this one and am going to make one for myself too. Wink I had hoped to make a Sterling engine as my large piece but I wouldn't get it done in time. I'm going to make a coffee cup one for myself sometime. Cheesy
