After months of making things for other people, I've FINALLY had a chance to make the top I've been aching to for so long! Smiley

This was the most complicated pattern I've followed so far, and the collar in particular was difficult to get right as the band collar also has a stiff bit of facing that goes down in the inside, and the first several times through I didn't understand the instructions at all (but as with most things, it made sense as I went along).

I modified the pattern by lengthening the back zipper and having it open from the bottom instead of the top, as I've tried on so many tops in stores that would fit if it wasn't for the unzippered bit of the back seam at the bottom! So I fixed my pet peeve in my own design! As a result, I also changed the hook and eyes to close the collar at the back rather than at the bottom as instructed. I also took out a bunch of darts to make it less fitted (since I've got a very boyish waistline) which also makes it a bit more casual.

I really love how it turned out, and I wore it out on Sunday to a bunch of compliments and shock "you MADE that??" replies. Cheesy

I've made 2 shirts from that pattern, and I love both of them. I get billions of compliments everytime I wear them. I wish I had pictures of them to show off!

very nice!  I love that you changed the zipper so suit you, that's exactly why I think sewing is such a great wonderful thing!   Cheesy

That is so awesome.  Congratulations.  Myself, I just can't make heads or tails of a pattern on my own... I try to do it on my own and always mess up somethin g:) That's why i stick to crafting or really easy sewing. Smiley

But wow, you are awesome at it.  Good work.

It's just regular cotton, which is why it's a bit wrinkly under the arms (I'd worn it all day before I remembered to have my boyfriend grab the camera).

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! This pattern's got 4 other variations so I think I might try one of the short sleeved ones with some green bamboo fabric I've got. I always copy the pattern pieces onto plastic first so I'd only have to recopy the sleeve pattern bits. Wink
