So, I decided that I was going to make my boyfriend a blanket for Christmas, and I finally finished it today. It's only my second blanket, and I like it. His favorite color is orange, and I just thought red would go with it well. The colors were called Pumpkin and Cherry Red.  Tongue

The granny square and crochet hook:

While it was in progress:

of course my cat, Rat, had to help.

Frillies on the corners:

Please excuse the mess in most of the photos; I haven't gotten around to cleaning my room.

I was going to add frillies to the shorter edges, but my boyfriend requested no frillies.

What do you think?

I think it's beautiful! That was a lot of work but looks like it was worth it. And everything is always better with a little cat hair on it.  Smiley Cute kitty too.

That's awesome...I'm working on one in almost the same colors...except not quite...It's my Gryffindor blanket so it's more of a golden yellow and maroonish red. I am alternating the squares though...1 red in the middle 1 yellow etc... That looks great!

ETA: Can you tell me how much yarn you used and what size the squares are? I have a feeling I'm making my squares WAY too big and it's going to be HUGE. This is my first crochet project.

That's sweet!
I tried to crochet granny squares but gave up before I got a quarter of the way into it. Now I just knit, so the fact that you made more than one really impresses me! LOL!

The colors are really fun too, I like the idea of the tassels on the corners!

But what if there's bears?

How much yarn did I use? Uhm.. A good bit. I don't know exactly how many skeins(I think that's what they are called) I used.
BUT! I do know that I used a LOT more orange yarn than red. I don't know if that's helpful or not

My squares are roughly 6 inches on all sides.. but they're all a little wonky; therefore they aren't exactly 6 inches, hehe.

I am making a blanket like that.  It is so lopsided because I suck at gauge and I haven't touched it in months because, well, I got discouraged.  But maybe I will have to take it out again!
I like yours!  It reminds me of pizza, in a good way. Smiley

Very nice! Love the colors too. They are very ... ummm...Bright! (lol) Nice job. I am sure he will love it (if the cat doesn't claim it first!)
