Hi all! My name is Jeni, and this is the first time I've been on this board. But I wanted to share my first quilt!! I did it over the summer. I'm a student so summer is really the only time I have to myself, minus my job! Anyway, I created the pattern myself, and the corners are quilted whereas the middle is tied - I had a really hard time quilting on my machine because it's a typical machine. So I tied it. Either way, it looks okay. I missed a few seams here and there, which I've been fixing as I find them. So all together, this took about two months to do.. anyway! pictures!

this is the quilt stretched out over my bed. it's approximately 55 inches wide and about 80 inches long - I wanted to make it long enough for my twinXL bed at school.

I'm working on building the pattern for my second quilt now, which is a LOT smaller. It's 4' by 4', and it's going to be regular blocks just in an overall pattern. : ) Hope I can get it done over my winter break!

Believe me the quilts seem to get easier as you do more of them. I'm not fond of bigger quilts because of the quilting issues with a regular sewing machine too.

Great colours! It looks fantastic! I've always liked the square-in-a-square pattern, and you can do a lot with it.

I'm one of probably a few hand quilters on this board, so I'm going to type this knowing I'm in the minority  Grin ... have you thought about quilting it by hand? The few things I've tried to shove (literally) into my sewing machine to quilt were small (like wallhangings and tablerunners) and was a pain in the butt (and shoulder, and arms, etc.). Handquilting is easier for me ... takes longer, but not as frustrating.

And tying can add a lot of dimension and texture to a quilt ... sometimes, a quilt looks better tied than quilted. Don't poo-poo tied quilts  Wink
