I think it would just be more convenient for everyone if they were separate.  Cross stitch is different from embroidery, etc.

More projects planned than executed.

There are a lot of kinds of needlework out there.  It seems to me that maybe we're dividing evenweave techniques from other techniques?  So that canvaswork (specialty stitches on evenweave canvas), bargello, and blackwork (backstitch or double running stitch on evenweave) would also go in the same category as needlepoint and cross stitch?  Or is it "pixel art" vs. "stitch art"?  In cross stitch and needlepoint, each stitch is one "pixel" and it's not about the individual stitches, whereas in other forms the stitches are more part of the final product, as it were.  Then variety stitches would go in the embroidery category?  I'd rather the second version, as I like embroidery, blackwork, and complicated canvaswork, but not so much straight cross stich or needle point...

Edited to add: then there's huck/Swedish weaving and hardanger, yet more evenweave techniques, not that I've actually seen either of those posted here.  Maybe the best categories are "cross stitch/needlepoitn" and "everything else".

I suspect I'm being somewhat pedantic and annoying, sorry about that!

Just wanted to jump on the bandwagon.  I do cross stitch only and would like to be able to easily find topics related to this and I am sure that others who do embroidery exclusively feel the same way.  Grin

Putting in my 2 cents worth...I agree.  I think they should be separate too.

I'd like to see separate categories.

OR, I'd like to see a new topic for projects from "Subversive Cross Stitch", which was the inspirational force behind me picking up some Aida and a hoop for the first time since I was 12.    Cheesy

I'd definitely like to see Hand Embroidery separate from Cross Stitch. I love doing both, but tend to have periods where I do one more than the other, and it would be much easier to get inspiration if they were separate.

It would definitely make for easier browsing depending upon which craft one wants to look at.

i agree too, i love looking at other needlework to get ideas but right now i'm in a cross stitch mode so that's mostly what i'm looking at.  Thanks!

I think seperating them would be a great idea
