this is the before pic.  the lamp base and stuff is actually gold. [i got a lil carried away and started painting but all the rest is original.] ugh i hate hate hate gold! in fact before me and my hubby got married, i told him if he was ever thinking about getting me a wedding ring it better not have gold anywhere on it or i'll say no! ewww and flowers! i can't stand flowers on anything in the house. it's so granny like to me! so ugly!

ok and the finished. it's so awsome! it goes perfectly with my downstairs "hang-out room" it's kinda decorated with all the cool bar stuff we have. Vintage glasses and paintings and whatnot.

light on

close up

how i made:

first the glass plates were screwed in so i took em out. i unwillingly kept em cause i thought if i break em maybe i can use em later. then to  get rid of the hidious gold. i spray painted the whole thing brown. [the first pic of the before was a diff color and i decided against it cause it was too shiny] then when that was dry and sufficiently aired out so i didn't bring the spray paint smell in the house i  took and strung fishing line from the holes where the screws were. lil dab of hot glue in places you can't see to make sure the line would hold sum weight. next it's time to put the glass on. I used beer bottles. green rolling rock ones and the brown Bud ones. all you do is sandwhich em on the line with hot glue. then it's done! Attaching the glass is actually the longest part cause you have to wear gloves to make sure you don't get glass shards in your hand. also a note this isn't the kinda lamp you'd put somewhere your kid [or anyone who like shiny's!] is going to get ahold of it. the glass is sharp! i really wish the pics did it justice cause when the light hits the glass its so pretty! so there it is my entry! hope ya'll like it!

thats a really cool idea.... using the beer bottle shards for a bar accent!

i also love  how the glass your design could inspire others to use their own items to string for a shade,  ..like beaders could use those bottom of the drawer junkers and make some really eclectic , or even needle  felted balls of varying size and colors for those crafters into textitles.

This is aweome .  Great work !

PS...i actually HAD that original lamp when i was in highschool ( '91 to '94) . My grandmother bought if for me for christmas one year ..it was on my desk in my bedroom for YEARS. I did enjoy that it was a touch lamp though . That was, however, its ONLY redeeming quality!  *laughs*

That's really cool. I was trying to figure out how you did the glass pieces. Well done!

Looking for those rubberband bracelets for causes! PM me!

This is so pretty!!  I love how it reflects the shapes of the glass onto the wall.  Way better than the original.  Kiss

i actually really like the original--i'm into old "grandma" stuff like that.
the new one has a cool twist, though.  beer bottle shard=awesome idea!

Oh, it's just kittens.
