Am putting this under Christmas because I'm making them for Christmas...plan on using this idea all year round though...

Gift bags get expensive around Christmas, normally I just reuse the ones I've gotten but I never have enough for the big holidays...seemed a waist to spend $2-5 on a gift bag when reusable grocery bags are so cheep.  So this is what I came up with.  Take an $.88 grocery bag and  a couple scraps of fabric from yard sales & 2nd hand store that I picked up for pocket change.  A little cutting (I gave an extra inch for folding over on each side), some pining, iron flat, then sew away...

I just covered the front and back so the logo will not show...but you could also do the sides and bottom to help strengthen the bag to make it last longer.  The plastic thing in the bottom is getting a treatment with duct tape before going out so that it does not end up in shreds.

Being made of fabric they won't rip as easy as the paper gift bags like the MIL's gift bag I used for her B-Day last night and can be reused more as gift bags, or move onto a life as a fancy reusable grocery bag, a tote bag or even tell the kids it is a toy bag...

Keep a mental note of the different sizes and colors the different stores carry and most have a logo bag for a $1 or less..JoAnn's & Target's are larger and I've already counted 4 different colors and 3 different sizes...

Great idea.  We are planning to do something like this, only we were just going to cover the logo.  You did better by changing the whole bag.  Excellent job.
