I decided last year that I wanted to make my own formal dress, because I couldn't find any that I liked or any that would fit me properly. My sewing teacher was really kind and let me and a friend spend Monday's after school working on it for a few hours. Two hours a week is not much time to work on a formal dress and it took about a years worth of those lessons. I stuffed up a lot Tongue

We spent about a term working on the...*can't remember the word* it starts with a t...I don't know. A practice version of the dress? Made from calico? I'm sure you know the word lol. Anyway, I had to do about three different versions of that to get the measurements right and we ended up having to split a few of the pattern pieces in different spots to get the bust to fit properly. I hate hate hate measurements lol.

Anyway, here tis...

^On the dummy. I would've been happy to just cart that around at formal, I thought it made the back look the best ever.

^Where there should have been buttonholes. The machine died on me halfway through the fourth buttonhole so I gave up and unpicked them very, very carefully then sewed the ribbon over the top in a laced way. I thought it looked better Tongue

^Me, looking slightly pregnant lol. Not pregnant, damn shadows!

^The back on me...oh how I love it Cheesy

^The front-ish. Me looking unpregnant and the bust fitting perfectly! It should've after spending so long working on it lol.

It was made out of really heavy delustered satin. It looked and felt so nice and was totally worth the ridiculous amount of money it was per metre Tongue Still I suppose it was cheaper than buying a dress. I learned so much from making it as well. Loved it.

Your hard work paid off very nicely! What a great dress. I don't know if I would've had that much dedication, haha.

Wonderful work.
I am sure all the practice runs with calico were worth it.
Lovely work.
