My mom recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've heard of the Chinese tradition of making 1000 cranes for better health, I can't seem to make a single crane. So my solution is to make 1000 Pink Lucky Stars

Here is a Tute on how to make themhttp://www.opane.com/luckystar.html
Would anyone like to make some with me? You can give them away to a loved one, or just for luck.
The paper size is 10"x1/2" or something near that size

I'm sorry to hear, I pray for the best.

Just a question, I don't have the special paper for it, how long and wide should the strips be? I was going to try one from construction paper, thanks!!

I'll make some.... I love making those stars....

btw... CrAzYhOuSe.... you can put paper through a shredder and it will give you some nice strips.... but only do like 3/4 of the paper length when doing it that way... but the paper doesn't have to be perfect.... but more than an inch is probably too thick and just the length of the paper would be fine.....

I was just thinking yesterday that I'd like to make these stars more often and your post gives me a reason to.  Just need to figure out what to do with them.  Maybe I'll just write "lucky" on them and drop them randomly.

You can use the paper that comes out of the shredder, just adjust the length.  My shredder gives quarter inch strips, so I just halved the lengths.

Nausi, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I find joy in creating and helping others create not just jewelry and crafts but best of all, the life they want.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. My heart goes out to you, your mom, and your family.

As for paper cranes. I've just learned to make them because I wanted to make a whole bunch to use as ornaments for Christmas presents for my co-workers. Here's a really good tute on youtube that helped me out. I looked at a lot of tutes, but you can actually see what she's doing in this one. I hope it helps. They're quite simple once you figure out how to do it. And, you can pause it and rewind it when you need to.

Good luck!

I read this when you first posted this thread.

I was just checking in to see how many stars you've made.  Smiley

Hugs to you and your Mom.
