they are great.  I've had the bobbin issue and slipped stich problem too.  I now only buy singer bobbins that match my matchine.  The slipped stitches were fixed by a rethread and a quick lint clean up.  My latest poppet is made out of polar fleece and it gets everywhere.  I had to take the case off and give it an air can clean.  blue everywhere!

Big blue is finished, but naked.  He looks a bit like Jake from tweenies or so my son says.  I have an idea for his outfit, but I have to source the right material.  My son wants Big Blue to be a space man for his job and to have normal clothes, but wears glasses too!  the latter isn't too bad as i still have DS 0-3 month clothes which actually fit Big Blue  The glasses I'm going to make from an old pair of his baby sunnies.  The problem I am having is sourcing silver spacesuit material.  I'm thinking the stuff you get for ironing board covers which will have a rigidity to it.  so by the time I finish Big blue it'll be christmas!

In the states we have Halloween costume fabs in the stores now. Spacesuits are a popular costume, silver lame. But if you can get your hands on an old ironing board cover, free. Sounds like fun. I can't remember seeing a space man poppet yet.
I've been wanting to make some sun glasses for another doll. Really cheap and haven't been able to figure a really cheap way to do it.

The silver lame would make a cool space man outfit. I'd use some iron on interfacing to give it some stiffness.
I used shrinky dinks for the lenses, and polymer clay for the frames on the Lab Rat poppet.

Irasema--love those lashes and that is a cute dress.

I've never used polymer clay for the noses, is it very hard to use?  I found some on clearance and was considering it for my Christmas girls...

Oh good lord. All the beautiful poppets while I've been struggling with my machine.

I finished her. She's entirely hand sewn, against my will. I think she came out well for all the frustration and tears I put into her. I'll be glad to see her gone, though.

As for my machine, I came home from school and read all the advice you kind crafters have been giving. I decided to go for a test run before I changed anything. I pulled out a scrap of polar fleece and my machine worked perfectly.

I now realize that Jaws was the perfect name for my sewing machine. He's a sadistic thing, that's for sure.

EDIT: It was all a lie. I put in a crushed velvet material and I had the same problems again, but it's working a bit better. When I hold the back of the fabric while I'm sewing, it feels like the thread is pulling on it, and even when I use a tiny stitch, the stitches turn out large. The fabric also kinda bunches up. I thought it was a tension problem, but I can't seem to find that magic number.
