IF you aren't lucky enough to find clear eyes,  Sad you can file the color off of the back of the plastic safety eyes and repaint.  I have used nail polish with great results.  Sharpies also work to if you don't want glitter flecks.    Wink  I just bought some new polish which Mr Goldfish thinks is hilarious since I can't wear it.  It is all for the eyes....

Great, thanks for the tips Cheesy I like the nail polish idea - so many colours to choose from!

.. is it better to use plastic eyes rather than glass then?
which gives a nicer finish do you think?

I've never used glass...but it is easier to fix/hide scratches on plastic ones! Cheesy

I've never used glass eyes before. I use the plastic clear ones, and use acrylic paint. If you want some metallic look to them, blend your color with gold silver or pearl. They turn out looking really cool! For some examples, look at the eyes that Malibukasey or I have done. You can go to our profiles and pull up past topics. When you use the gold, or silver in the center and then a color around that, they really come alive! I don't seal mine with anything, but I haven't washed any of them either. I suppose a clear coat of fingernail polish could do the trick.

glass eyes are possibly only good if the poppet is for yourself, they scratch really easily and can shatter if the dolls thrown during a tantrum (plus if your younger sister thwaks you with the doll it really hurts and you give her a chinese burn and YOU get punished even though she started it  Angry lmao Cheesy)
The plastic eyes Ive seen are cheaper, and you can get a wider range of colours, plus they seem to hold better

Yah! I've got a story like that too! Aren't sisters great?
I didn't even think of the durability of the glass eyes. That's a good point. You know there are a lot of really good sites on the net that sell this stuff.
Oh! And I am so excited. The Hobby Lobby in my town opened up last week. I LURVE Hobby Lobby!
