My close friend is a professional dancer - and she is moving towards incorporating ostrich feather fans in her dance acts.  I wanted to make her a kanzashi for Christmas...but, I wanted it to be special - so I decided to make her a kanzashi she could wear as a part of the costume for when she does fan dance.

I was aiming for a very vintage, burlesque feel - kinda like something you would oooh and aaaah over at a vintage dress shop - and see on dancers from an age bygone.

I am quite happy with how it turned out.  It was a simple matter of just gluing down a feather base, then, manipulating the silk petals into the shape I wanted, and gluing them down also.

I just wish I had more time to make more of these...but with Chrismas around the corner...and moving apts...it is a nightmare trying to find time =[

I hope you like - I also hope my friend likes it!  I'll find out tomorrow night :]

i've always wondered about kanzashi - what is it about this that makes is 'kanzashi' and how did you learn to do it?  i'd love to create things like that myself.
