My nephew has decided that he wants to be a zombie skateboarder with killer road-rash for Halloween. I've never used liquid latex or anything like it before and decided tonight was a good night to practice, so, does this look convincing?

either that or it looks like an infected wound. That is awesome for a test wound.

Looks good. My first thought: cigarette/cigar burn or infected blister thing gone wrong.

Don't forget, ya'll, he wants to be a zombie skateboarder with killer road rash.  Sooo..he's gotta have some funk going along with it. Cheesy

I think it looks great!

I think you got the coloring down great! The wound looks really convincing. My son is being a dead biker with road rash this year and I did a test patch on me yesterday I used a stipple sponge with the latex and got a great result. If you want I could post a picture for you.

a picture would be wonderful!

my mom has been an RN forever and I kinda made her cringe when I stuck it in her face. I think I'm ok with the actual "wound" part, I've had some pretty nasty scabs and such from skating and it looks about right, but I'm not sure about the surrounding area.

I think it looks really great! A good supply to have on-hand when you're doing wounds/zombie makeup are used dryer sheets.    You tear them at the edges so they're easy to smooth down, paint a little latex or spirit gum to the area you're working on and let it dry.  Paint a layer of latex over that and let that dry, then you can tear up the dryer sheet painlessly from the area and make it up.  It gives a 3rd dimension to the wound.  Coloured gelatin inside the wound helps to add that extra touch of gore Smiley

I think it's a good first wound.  Road rash definitely needs more red - you might also try using vaseline or something http://shiny on it so it looks like a fresh road rash.

It looks like a rather convincing flesh disorder of some sort. I think to make it look more like road rash you should make it longer (verses a circle) but I think it's off to a great start.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.

I think it looks good...

Make magazine has just released a Halloween Special Issue. It contains instructions on making killer road rash and zombie make up in general. You should check it out.

The grey around it dosen't look quite right to me...if any color, I'd do a bruise, or red to show irritated skin.

But thats my just opinion.

I used a single ply TP in between layers of the latex and was just playing with whatever old makeup I had lying around. The red in the center is just cheap lip gloss. Thank you guys for all the suggestions!
