So my husband loves zombies and I love all things Halloween. Since his birthday is October 18, I decided to combine both or our loves and make him a zombie themed birthday cake.

I started out with this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Black-Magic-Cake/Detail.aspx. It made a super sticky moist cake which I would recommend to everyone. I filled it with cherry filling so that when you cut the cake it's like it's bleeding. I tinted icing and coconut green, then frosted the top and covering it with the coconut to make a grass like setting for my cemetery. The gravestones are Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies iced with gray icing (I took store bought black and mixed it with some white) and black gel piping to make the letters "RIP" on each. Finally, the arms I bought at a local craft store, then Sharpied green and drew stitches on. There's also some red gel blood covering each.

Altogether it was a pretty simple cake, but I think it turned out rather well.

Here's a close-up. It's not the best, but unfortunately it's the best one I took.

All I have left to say is .... BRAINS!

That is really creative!  I love how you filled it with cherry-ness.  I definitely want to eat it (thanks for sharing the recipe).  The coconut grass is a really neat idea, too  Smiley

FAN-TAS-TiQUE!!!  Whoa that is SO cool.  Great idea.

If it had grown up, it would have made a dreadfully ugly child; but it makes rather a handsome pig, I think.
