I had this cute turtleneck sweater Ive been wanting to reconstruct since it's was way too big on me.. I couldnt find any tutorials here on how to make one into a cardigan set, so I winged it and this is the result (dont pay attention to the black tshirt you will understand if you read my blog why it's there)::

If you want to read how I did it or see more (and better) pictures, please go to http://madebyreneecrafts.blogspot.com/2004/12/turn-turtleneck-sweater-into-cute.html and be sure to leave comments or check out the rest of my blog Wink

thanks for looking!!

That's lovely!  I have a chenille tunic-sweater that I've been wondering about reconstructing.  I've never done any reconstructing before, so I'm a little afraid of ruining it.  But then, I remind myself I got it on clearance at Gordman's for $4, and haven't worn it more than twice because I didn't try it on when I bought it and forget that tunic sweaters look like hell on me.  It's one of those sweaters I wear when I need to do laundry, and I have to tuck it in for it to look decent, and then, of course, I have a sweater tucked in to my jeans, which is also NOT an attractive look...

So, I really just need to get over it and cut my nearly new $4 sweater up.  I thought about cutting it up the middle, adding a zipper and shortening it up quite a bit, but this cardigan idea might be even cuter!

you girls are too generous :blushing: but thank you SO much! I really appreciate as much feedback as I can get (especially when its this nice Wink )

Lothruin: Thank you for the compliment!  Ill bet yours would turn out pretty.. Ive taken another sweater I had, split it up the middle and sewed on a zipper to make that into a cardigan. Im also putting ribbon at the neckline to close with a bow Smiley Im not sure exactly what chenille is like.. I think I have an idea... but Im not sure if it would unravel or not, what do you think?  And yeah.. this was one of those sweaters I really loved but frankly didnt look good on me anymore.. I almost couldnt bear to cut into it, but Im glad I did and I bet youll feel the same!

Aaurora: thank you for the compliment!

This is such a great idea!  I've got a turtleneck sweater I got because I loved the stripes and colours, but the turtleneck drives my up the wall.  This would be a great use for it.

thanks!

you know I even found myself looking at sweaters on the clearance rack today just to see if they would make pretty cardigans!

oh by the way.. im modifying a sweater I have now into an off the shoulder type cardigan (hard to explain but here's a picture of before and after.. the top part is actually straight it just got a little bunched for the pic)

it's not complete yet, but what I wanted to say was that you see I used quilt binding down the front (in case some people dont like lacey things)

I love cardigans and hate turtlenecks. I would never of even thought of buying a turtleneck (even if it was a super cheap one from a thrift store) untill now when I know I can make it into a super cute cardigan! Great job!

I adore the second one.....
That is a brilliant idea......

this might be a dumb question but im not connecting the second one and how you would wear it...are you going to button it up or put straps on it?

thanks cowgirl and Ldybug4eskimo Smiley

Ldybug4eskimo: not a dumb question! under the ribbed part there are armholes.. so as of right now, the ribbed part folds over your shoulders like this::

it doesnt button or zipper, it's more along the lines of a wrap or shrug I guess.

..I'm probably going to change it again really soon.. Smiley
