Hi, I made 6 bags last night by using Jordys method, so am pretty happy
They are to be gifts , for my relatives to use for shopping to save using those pesky plastic bags.
I used curtain fabric offcuts, for two reasons, they where a good price and the fact that they already had a type of lining saved me having to interface them.
( I know, Im lazy!)
The beauty of using the stiffened fabric also is that there was no fraying so I didnt need to zigzag any edges, speeding up production no end.
For new sewers, a tip I have found is to make two at least of what ever you are making, you get them both done almost as quick as one, just keep feeding the fabric production line style under the foot.
Saves cutting the cotton, and starting up a new seam. (now that was clear as mud, but hopefully made some sense)
When I was buying the fabric a lady asked me what I was doing and when I told her she suggested that the bags may be at least partly waterproof due to the lining, so thats a thought too.
The only thing I dont know, not having done this before, is how well they wear. Has anyone any idea how well curtain fabric holds up to wear and tear as a shopping bag? and any washing instructions would be appreciated.
Please excuse the sideways pics, I will figure that part out
