I haven't crocheted in ages, but decided to tackle this poncho for my sister-in-law's Christmas present who just had a baby boy on Dec. 10. I thought that she could use this while nursing to maintain some privacy. It was a pretty basic pattern, which was good for me since I hadn't crocheted in so long. I used Berocco Suede yarn, which has that great sueded look and feel to it. The only thing I didn't like was that it is a flat yarn, and I kept having to untwist it to keep it from getting too noticeably kinked in my work. Is there some other way of dealing with this? Any suggestions or comments are welcome. I think that the successful completion of this project means that more crocheting is on the way...

oh, that's lovely!  I'm sure the swuade is nice and cozy!  Smiley

great idea about nursing...  I find it irratating how even when a woman is nursing in a women's bathroom (you know, one with a big comfy chair in the first part of it, like at my church) with something covering her up, people still give them evil looks!  if the mother feels comfortable enough to do it, then I don't think others should be griping...  just my two cents.

Well done!  Is that the pattern from "Simply Creative Crochet"?  if so, it looks really good.  It was hard for me to tell from the pic in the magazine...

if you can't be a good example then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

Thanks for checking it out! Yes, the pattern is from Better Homes & Gardens Simply Creative Crochet magazine. There are some other cute patterns in there too. My copy says "display until January 4, 2005", so it should still be available if you don't already have a copy. Although the yarn was a bit of a pain to work with, I'm really happy with the suede look and feel of it. I bet it would be great to use for some western themed stuff for that cowboy/girl look...

That poncho is lovely! Im collecting x-tra simple poncho patterns for beginners..Anyone have them? Especially for kids 3-4 yrs? Adult simple ones alos welcome! I would like to avoid making some with two rectangles....
