So this is a working progress that I just started today.

Every year, the company I work for goes all out for Halloween.  I don't have money to buy a costume and not even enough for purchasing materials.  The voices in my head decided that we had to do something with the stuff found in the closet.  This is what is turning out.  A gypsy costume, since a gypsy is as generic as you can get.

I'm wearing two full dresses, three skirts and two scarfs.

I needed to wear so much in order to achieve the fullness on the bottom, seeing as I can't make a pettycoat.  Also, I took the sides from one of the skirts and pinned them up on the side.  Later on, I will try to stitch them together since right now everything just moves around on its own and some of the skirts have a tendency to ride up and hide completely under the other one.

I still need some type of scarf to tie to my head, a dot or jewel for my forehead, appropriate shoes (no idea in hell of which kind to wear) and maybe torn white pantyhose?

I would LOVE ideas on how to improve this costume.  Thanks for looking!

Looks really great so far!  I would add necklaces and rings if you can and wear plain black shoes of some sort.  I'd imagine dark stockings would be more authentic.  Speaking of authentic, I don't think gypsies ("Roma" is the actual name) wear a dot or jewel on their forehead, but am not completely sure.

big hoop earrings, black shoes, as mentioned above.  maybe some striped stockings? if you can't buy them, maybe try drawing stripes on white tights with colored sharpies?
also a head scarf might me a nice touch too.
anyway i really like what you've got so far. it looks fantastic!

It looks really good so far!  I would use some type of gauze type stuff for a head scarf, tons of bangles and hoops, and I would say black boots (I would say ankle boots, but that's just me)...  oh, and maybe some bright red lipstick... Cheesy that's always fun...

The yarn seduced me, I swear!!

That's killer!  You must have an awesome closet to pull from.  I think it looks great already.

Wow, you look great! Like other people have said, lotsa jewelery, like bangles and necklaces, would look great. Also, maybe a very flowy scarf you could loosely wrap around your head would look good. I don't know, though, since your hair looks really good by itself... Well, whatever you do, it'll look amazing.

This post is a little image heavy.

Oh gosh, I'm so freaking excited!  Ok, I raided my closet and no, its not that exciting.  I own a couple peasant skirts, a couple sweaters and the rest are jeans and tank tops.  Cheesy

Let's see, I do own ankle boots!  Thing is I have extremely skinny legs (think Olive from Popeye) and the ankle of the boot sort of dances around my own ankle.  Maybe I can wear a couple pairs of socks to tighten the fit?

And I do own strippy socks!  I used them for my costume last year.  Think of Wizard of Oz witch socks, only black and white stripes.

Alright! Moving on, I think I can fold this red thing a couple times and safety pin it so that I can wear it around my head.  Question is, should I fold it like a belt and let it hand down the side of my head or should I fold it like a triangle and let it hang down the back?

Now on to jewelry. Agh! I don't own hoop earrings nor any more bangles.  Maybe I can raid my friend's homes and find these items.  They don't have to match, right.

And so far, this is all the stuff I'm wearing.  Its going to be funny stitching things together while I'm wearing them.  Specially since some of the skirts I'm not wearing at the waist, I'm actually wearing at the thighs so that I can add the illusion of length!

Thanks so much for all the input!  Maybe I can even win a prize at work!
