let me start off by saying that i love autumn. i love the smells, the chills, the holidays, the lack of humidity (i live in the deep south!), and the CLOTHES!!

i bought this herringbone fabric earlier this summer but never bothered with it because i was unsure what to execute. i was mostly worried about messing up what little fabric i bought, which was already pretty expensive (but not as expensive as the wool - i had no idea wool costs so much).

anyway, i'm really happy with how it turned out. the pattern was inspired by a similar skirt i bought from american eagle a couple years ago, although i did change a couple things that i didn't feel like messing with (front zippers -HAHAHA LIKE I CAN DO THOSE!!! HAHAHA!!!). all seams are serged - with this type of fabric, it's absolutely necessary. there is a side zip and the waistband closes with a couple flat hook&eyes. oh, and there are a couple darts in the waistband because i was too stupid to realize the original pattern pieces required a slight curve to actually fit. whatever.

without further ado:

here it is, as posed by my ladyfriend

this is the side, not the back. i just realized how silly this picture looks, but you get a good idea of the pleats. and just for the record: my butt looks way better in that skirt than my friend's does. trust me.

and here it is on meeee. that guinness shirt is recon from about a hundred years (ok, two months) ago.

here are what the pleats look like. i tried taking this picture about a dozen times, and each one came out either blurry or ghostie. sorry about that. i told the ghost to stay out of the picture, but she wouldn't listen.

the inside, because i'm a real snob about having pretty seams

here's the skirt with her cousin, the inspiration. oh, and my kitten, who diligently helped throughout the entire process by losing my seam ripper, basting thread, various pins, and the screwdriver that lets you change out the needles in the serger.

thanks for looking!

That is so cute. I used to have the original pink skirt. Your version is so much better. The fabric is amazing.

I agree with you about fall.

I have to say your written voice was so enjoyable, this entire entry was more than just reading about a skirt ^_^

I think it's fabulous really, you certainly chose something that looks great together and on you as well

how old is that kitten? she's adorable

I LOVE that skirt!! Nice choice of material Smiley Isn't it itchy? (I have a similar skirt & had to line it because I kept scratching all day...)

thanks for the comments, guys!

to answer some questions-

my kitten is about 11 weeks ago (i think). her name is amelia earhart and she leaves dirty pawprints on pretty much everything.

the fabric is actually really soft, it doesn't itch a bit. i bought it from this hoity-toity fabric shop here (i'm in nashville), and paid something stupid expensive, like $28 a yard. yeah, most i've ever paid for a piece of cloth. but it was totally worth it.

That skirt is wonderful! I may have to attempt something similar (but a little longer) for my 'business attire' wardrobe... Grin

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
