It would be awesome to find an old skateboard and customize the deck. You could paint it, collage it, etc. I bet he'd really like that.

I was Christmas shopping for the skaters in my life when I ran across some Baker ties - they take old thrift store ties and silkscreen the company's name on it. They were pretty cool and I bought one for my friend's son. When I read this post I was thinking, "she could silkscreen some little skulls down one and maybe some sort of skate related text." I was originaly thinking using a logo of the brand of his choice, but there are those pesky copyright laws...

I skateboard and so does my boyfriend and nothing says I love you like a skate video, a skate tool, some curb wax, or a brand new pair of shoes. But considering this is craftster.org I'm pretty sure you want to make something.

Here are some ideas:
- Home-made curb wax (ever make a candle? Its the same process, except you don't have to worry about the nice smell) Every skater needs and loves curb wax. I always have some with me.

- customizing his backpack so it can hold his skateboard

- making some pillows, shirts, anything else you can stick pictures or logos of his favorite pro's and companies on.

- skateboard shelves for his room (old skateboards or dirt cheap walmart boards with some shelve mounts)

- If your into art, using a skateboard (without trucks) as your canvas.

- Someone mentioned the tie thing. Great idea. Except, make them yourself! Much cheaper. Skate goods are ridiculously overpriced. Trust me.

Whatever you do, don't mess around with the gear he's got. That's a no no with any skater. I collect old skateboards, trucks, bearings, risers, and wheels just in case I ever need them. So its a big no no, unless you have his permission of course.

Here are some websites that you might find some cool stuff on.

Handbags, trinkets, and oddities that truly allow you to march to your own beat.

Shorty's makes a great "Skateboard first aid kit" with all the essentials for any skateboarder.  (Check out Zumiez if there's one in a mall near you)

If you don't want to buy the kit, I bet you could just as easily customize one for him with wax, bearings, tools, band aides, and whatever else he might need.

You'd think I'd be able to help you more, with me working in a skateshop, but I'm a little slow this morning.

oh, i totally love the pillow idea but a pillow case (not a couch pillow).  stitch something skate-a-licious along the edge.  oh and get it from a thrift store, those bastards are expensive new, and old pillow cases are so much softer.
