Paint satanic symbols all over your lawn.

Stick a stake through a fake plastic dear and cover it in fake blood. Make a sign next to it of some satanic prayer.

Buy animal innards at he grocery store and decorate with those.

Haha.

"Buy animal innards at he grocery store and decorate with those."

The smell alone will scare people!

To be honest, having a doll just right next to the door, no noose, or anything, just standing next to the door would be the only thing to really creep me out. The whole dolls hanging by nooses makes me happy. Dolls are creepy enough on their own. Cheesy

haha I second this Smiley

I second the satanic theme. Lots of dead animals (fake or real, whichever you prefer =P) Organs, fake blood, a hole to hell, satanic symbols, etc. Yeah.

i love the mirror idea.
and for decoration i think I'm gonna go with lawn gnomes, maybe paint they eyes with glow in the dark paint or some blood around they mouths.
now i just need to find a place to buy a bunch of cheap gnomes.

If you have curtains...put a manekin or a painting from cardboard of eyes or something creepy by it. Set up an oscillating fan to move the curtain so it looks like whatever is behind there looks down on people every so often.
Personally, stuff jumping out at me scares the ever loving poo out of me.  That mirror idea would definately give me the heebies.
If you want entrails all over minus the smell of the reall stuff, Wal-Mart is selling fake body parts right now, and guts are easily made from cheap pantyhose stuffed with red wet paper towels/batting or something of the like.  Layer up some modge podge on a sheet of plexiglass and add a little skin coloured paint and tear it up to make chunks of flesh.

I had a neightbor once that had a really big porch & use to do a murder scene with real crime scene tape & a taped out outline of a body & then they would throw in some random gore like body parts & a strobe light. I noticed a bunch of kids didn't want to go there.

This one you might not be able to do in your area.....
When I was little the neighbor had 3 teenage boys & what they would do would be to just have basic decorations but when a kid would start up the walkway the mother would yell out to her boys in the backyard & they would run around the house with bee bee guns & others that would pop with scarey masks on. It would scare the kids to death. Again you may not be able to do this in your area but the police knew what was going on & they never had a problem.

My dad use to hand out candy & he would leave on the porch light & dim all the interior except for a blcaklight & he would take out the bottom panal in the screen door to hand out the candy thru. He would get the scariest mask he could find & sit to the side of the door & as a kid started up the walkway he would peek around the doorframe & growl at them. I had to take candy out to kids a couple times because they were too scared of the "monster"

The fake scarecrow on the porch use to get me every time. Even better is when you have a fake scarecrow & a regular person handing out candy next to them. The kids NEVER suspect its another person in the outfit when you have someone else handing out candy.

There was a house in my neighborhood that did something like this, combine with the scarecrow thing. they'd put the bowl on the "scarecrow's" lap and as kids walked up and went to take a piece, the scarecrow would stand up and growl, spreading his arms out to look bigger, being careful not to spill the candy of course Cheesy

my aunt used to take me trick or treating and i made her get the candy at this house.

there was another house that had an archway over the sidewalk and they had a grim reaper doll set up before halloween. when we went trick or treating, they had replaced the doll with their teenage son in the same costume. after you walk through the archway, he would either start following you (scariest thing ever!!) or he'd deadfall, flat on his face on the sidewalk. I don't know how it didn't hurt, but he said he did it all the time. the rest of their setup was full of strobe lights, gravesites, things set up on a pulley system flying through the air (system hidden in trees, things hanging below the branches). I don't know what the porch was like because well, I made her get the candy from that house too.

go figure.. now halloween is my favorite holiday, horror movies and books are the best things, but haunted houses still scare me. I think it's the following and the jumping out at you that freaks me out the most. I had to be escorted out of the haunted graveyard last halloween because I was freaking out too much (after the first hallway)

ETA: just remembered something cool they had in the year i made it through that haunted graveyard. there was a tunnel set up where the inside walls (where people would be walking through) were made of black spandex type material and people would stand behind the spandex and push their hands through it like they were stuck in the wall and were trying to reach out and grab you. they had the corridor lit either very dimly or with strobes very cool
