Hi everyone!  I just moved here to attend UCSC and I have seen a bunch of posts about forming a club but I dont know if anyone has succeeded.  So, seriously who wants to meet somewhere at a cafe or something and have lunch to discuss crafting and figure out a place where we can craft together?

A little about me...
I am originally from the Antelope Valley in Los Angeles County.  I am 24 and I am married, one daughter (age 2.5).  I like to sew and embroider, but I also knit occationally.  I am living on campus (UCSC) in Family Student Housing and I have alot of free time on my hands until school starts.

Email me if you are interested and if you have any meeting place suggestions!

If you would like to know more about me I have a blog.

Hope to meet some of you!

If you're willing to drive up to Campbell, we have a group that meets every month at the library there.  More info here:

We've had a few people come up from Santa Cruz, though I think they were usually up here for work anyway. Smiley

Also interested. I live in Capitola and definitely can't afford to drive to Campbell every month. I would love to have a crafty club. Cheesy

Also, if anyone knows where the SC Stitch n Bitch meets, I'd love to know. I saw a picture in my 2008 snb calendar but I can't figure out what cafe they are in.. Sad

Hey Fiber People: I am very interested in personal swaps for painted/dyed roving or top. I can swap supplies or crafted items. Let's talk!

I'm new too and looking for fellow crafty folks -- I'm up in the mountains but end up "in town" almost every day. And taking a "fiber arts" class at Cabrillo! Apparently there are several craft-specific groups in SC County, but I don't know if they're active or anything...found out about them through an online county resource guide...

Some things I've heard about:
- Collage workshop/party - thru Santa Cruz Free Skool, final Wednesday of every month. There are periodically other crafty classes in the community; check the calendar here: santacruz.freeskool.org

- Some classes thru Cabrillo College Extension: http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/extension/creative.html

- Art classes, events and gallery in Ben Lomond: http://www.mountainartcenter.org/classes.htm

- Santa Cruz Bead Society: http://www.santacruzbeadsociety.org/

- SC arts and entertainment (focus on the arts) site: http://www.cruzy.org/

- Knitting Guild of SC: contact phone # is 831-423-0845

- Pajaro Valley Quilt Association: http://www.pvqa.org/

- SC Handweavers Guild: http://www.santacruzhandweavers.org/

I'm in Capitola too, I'd love to get together with some crafty people, I need to get out more.

This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence.

Update on Santa Cruz craftiness!

The craft meetup that sproutattack facilitated (mentioned in previous posts) is no longer on because she's moved to the much craftier Pacific Northwest.

There are a number of groups and classes formed or forming in the area, and I'll try to get them all listed here within the next week! Note that these are all classes for adults; there's a ton of stuff for kids posted in local resources.

Craftastic - http://www.meetup.com/Craftastic/ - monthly crafty meetup and supply exchange, good group of people with variety of talents!

Santa Cruz knitting meetup - http://knitting.meetup.com/115/ - for crocheters too; at least 2 meetups and a Stitch-n-Bitch happening at local coffee shops every week!

My intro embroidery and cross-stitch class through Santa Cruz Free Skool - "Seditious Stitching and Subversive X-Stitch" will be on their Summer calendar! Monday, July 6 and August 3, 2:30pm at SubRosa Infoshop

On most other Mondays in July and August, at the same time-slot and same place, will be a venture I'm calling "Creative reuse and waste diversion". We'll make stuff out of scrap materials, take field trips to great reuse art stores out of the area (such as East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse or SCRAP in SanFran), and hopefully figure out how to create such a place locally!

Cabrillo College Extension offers some creative arts classes during the summer: http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/extension/creative.html

Cabrillo College also offers CabrilloArts in the summer--I've heard it's always a great series of classes, all in advanced and mixed-media types of things. July 20-31. http://www.cabrillo.edu/academics/artstudio/cabrilloarts/

Santa Cruz Bead Society - I haven't checked in on this one, but their website says they meet once a month. http://www.santacruzbeadsociety.org/

So I know this thread is a bit old, but I thought I'd drop this link here:

If anybody in SC is interested, The Fabrica is a lovely little place next to the bike church and Saturn Cafe downtown that's a veritable playhouse for crafty folks. And it's a great place for meet-ups. Plus, it's free if you're too pocket-lean, and cheap if you're down to donate. Since it's community-run, donating materials is always a good thing (and you can put your stash on a diet).

Hope to see you guys around town!

Also, Poet and the Patriot lets us host S&Bs there once a month, so if anybody is interested in joining feel free to drop me a line! Cuz who doesn't love sewing, knitting and beer?
