hello quilters:
question! i have been making a knitted quilt (since like, grade four so it's kinda crazy looking) and i am just wondering if i should bother backing it with something? putting batton (sp?) and sewing a patchwork back? any other suggestions? thanks so much!

While I know some quilts use knit fabric, if you are actually knitting the blanket that is usually called an afghan rather than a quilt. Without backing, batting, etc-but especially without quilting-you can't really call it a quilt.

However if you are making an afghan, You don't need to do any of that.

You could put a back on it - I've seen that done.  But yeah, you don't NEED to.  I wouldn't put any batting (middle part) in if you do back it, because I think it might get a little bulky.  Sounds fun, though - lots of memories Cheesy.  I would love to learn to knit and do one of those someday...!

If you are working on (or thinking about starting) a postage stamp quilt with 1.5" squares, I have scraps and squares to give away.  PM me if you're interested.
