My mom is really into yoga. I want to make her something but I'm having trouble coming up with an idea... I'd like to knit her a gift. I know the new Stitch n' Bitch book has a pattern for a yoga mat carrier, but I'd like to be a little more original. (knitting an entire yoga mat is out of the question!  Wink )

Thanx!  Cool

I'm into yoga, and one thing I'm appreciating a whole lot right now is this shawl that I have.  Its perfect because when I first get to the studio, I'm kind of cold, but its easy to shrug off once I get into the flow of the yoga and start warming up.  Does that make sense?  So anyway, maybe you could knit her one and maybe embroider an Om symbol on it or something.

Thats the best I can come up with right now...

Okay, this is so typical of me, but I've thought more about your question and now I'm back.
Do you know what kind of yoga she does?  If she does Ashtanga or Bikram, those are the more sweaty kinds of yoga and you could make her some hand towels just for yoga class.
If she's also into meditation, you could make her a zafu cushion (if you google it, you'll see what I mean - basically a round cushion to sit on while meditating)
If you are open to crafting other than knitting, you could stencil her a shirt to wear to class with an om symbol, a passage from the yoga sutras, a lotus flower, etc.
And another gift thats good for a yoga enthusiast (which is not handmade but still nice) is a 1 on 1 yoga class with her favorite teacher.

Another good gift for Yoga lovers is a nice Yoga bag for her yoga accessories and a mat...

you could make a bag just for her mat...like this...

Or you could make a bag for clothes and mat...like this...

I've made a yoga bag for just a mat before...its super easy, and the finished product is good.  Let us know what you end up making...and post a pic if you can.

good luck

You could knit her a water bottle cozy/carrier, eye pillow (fill with lavender and flaxseed) or even little booties to keep her feet warm during meditation.
You are such a great kid!
