I originally made a smaller black bag and embroidered the flower onto it but while putting it together my sewing machine freaked out again and ripped a big hole in it so I dug out some extra fabric from making a kilt for my husband about a year ago. This is what I ended up with and I really like it.

This is a red and maroon rose on my plaid bag.

this is the other side, I'm a colorful person so I thought a bunch of really colorful and basic flower would be cool

I have used this bag for shopping, it will hold a gallon of milk and some other smaller items. There is no lining because I didn't like th way it looked in this bag and I left the outside edges unfinished because this fabric looks really neat when it frays a little so I just added a zigzag stitch around the edge so it doesn't fray too much.
I'm hoping to make a whole bunch more shopping bags in the near future since this on was such a success.

I love all the colored flower embroidery!  I wish I had the patience to do hand work to that extent!
